DJI Mavic Pro Drone
My husband wanted a drone. Really bad. He talked about it all the time. Probably for 2 or 3 months straight. Being newly married, saving for a house, paying off debt, and me not working as much over the summer, I didn't think we were in a good place to buy one at the current moment. But I really wanted to buy him one. Well I decided to surprise him. I had money saved from several years ago. And we had previously discussed what to do with that money. We talked about using it for some of a downpayment for a house eventually, or for furniture once we do get house, or a laptop, which I needed for my growing photography business. Well I decided to use some of that money for his drone. It was going to be for our anniversary/his birthday/possibly Christmas. haha I bought it in secret and was just going to have it shipped to his work to surprise him. He is an Inventory Control Coordinator at a company and is also in charge of a lot of the shipping. Therefore, he knows a lot of trucking companies and is friends with the UPS driver. Literally. Like when we've had packages shipped to our home, the UPS driver has recognized the name and just delivered it to Andrew at work. So I figured it wouldn't make it home so I just shipped it to his work. And then a few days after I ordered it, Andrew was bound and determined to order a drone (sigh). So I tried to tell him to wait, and lets just say he got it out of me that a drone was coming. And he was pumped.
Since he's gotten it less than two months ago, he's been in love. And I have to admit it, it is a pretty cool toy. It's awesome to see things from a bird's eye view. He's loved practicing and learning all about it. And I've heard all about the hundreds of "DJI Mavic Pro forums" that are out there. But I love watching him do things he's passionate about. We got it just in time for wheat harvest in June. My in-laws live on a farm in Central Kansas and we love going out and visiting them and live "life on the farm." Andrew wanted to take some drone footage of wheat harvest. He got some awesome shots and video from above. Then my family and us went on vacation to Alaska a few weeks later, at the end of June. He was pumped to be able to take his drone. We got to see Alaska's mountains, fjords, rivers, lakes, and valleys all from a perspective you never would've been able to without it. It was so beautiful.
Andrew was planning on making videos of footage he gets from his drone. And then I got a new computer and new, faster software compared to his computer. haha So he kind of pawned off his video making to me, since he couldn't figure it out on his computer anyway. Which is fine. I love editing, whether it be photos or video. So we decided to converge our passions/skills and work together! He flies and shoots his drone footage and I edit the videos. We've even played with the idea of him shooting drone footage of the weddings I do photography at. From what we've researched though, it looks like we have to do more paperwork and licensing though, so at the moment, that's not happening. But it's a fun hobby for us and still love sharing what we create with friends and family! And now, a lot of other friends here in cyberspace!
