The Overflow of the Heart

"The mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart." Matthew 12:34

People know what is in your heart from the words that come out of your mouth. If we're putting good things into our minds and hearts, good things will come out of our mouths. We need to be handling ourselves and be leading examples of a citizen of the Kingdom of God. When our school goes on field trips the kids get so many lectures and reminders of how they are representing our school. They need to conduct themselves like they know how to act as Lincoln Lions. I look at life in a similar way. We are not in our home. We are traveling in a foreign land and we need to conduct ourselves like a child of God is supposed to. Just like how I'm planning on raising my children. I don't care if "Sally" or "Billy" gets to do it or say that, but as our child; as a Rush, they will watch their language, their tone; they will be kind and compassionate. Because that's how God calls us to be. We are representing the Kingdom of God. We are held to a higher standard than what the world is. So next time when you're tempted to just let go and let your tongue have control, physically stop yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to help you out. And the more you do that, the more second nature it'll become. And when we are consistently putting things of truth and righteousness and purity in our hearts and minds, that is the fruit we will bear.

"You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit." Matt. 16-20

"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." Phil. 4:8
